Principal's Message

Ms. Karen Slate

Dear Parent or Guardian:

IAR Assessments

Dolton School District 149 students in grades 3-8 will take the Illinois Assessment for Readiness (IAR) test.  The students will be assessed in English Language Arts (ELA) and mathematics (M).

State tests, IAR (Illinois Assessment for Readiness is vastly approaching us. IAR is an assessment that allows a group of states working together to develop a set of

assessments that measure whether students are on track to be successful in college and their careers. We are required by the State of Illinois to conduct mandatory testing, Illinois Assessment Readiness (IAR) for all 3rd-8th grade students. The testing will begin Monday, March 15, 2021 - Friday, May 14, 2021.  All 3rd - 8th grade students will be required to attend four (4) half-day testing sessions.  You will receive your child’s testing schedule to ensure that they are testing on the appropriate day and at the correct time. Specifically, students in grades 3-8 will take the assessment during our designated testing window.

We understand that this will be the first time our students have returned to the school building since the beginning of the pandemic and you may have concerns. Please note, we are taking every SAFETY precaution to ensure your child and the NBLA staff will be safe during this time. Before entering the school bus and/or building, your child must wear a mask that covers their nose and mouth. All masks are required to stay on until they return home. In deciding whether to send your child to school on their designated testing days, we are asking you to evaluate how your child is feeling every morning please before sending them to school. If you or your child is

displaying any symptoms of COVID-19, PLEASE STAY HOME!  We also need you to ensure that they have not been in close contact to anyone with a suspected or confirmed case of COVID-19. In turn, please inform the school if this is such the case.

We have divided ALL classrooms into 2 testing groups: 1–AM & 1-PM. The AM students are expected to arrive for testing at 9:00 a.m. and will be dismissed at 11:30 a.m. (the AM dismissal times will vary.) The PM students will arrive for testing at 12:45 p.m. and will be dismissed at 3:30 p.m. All bus transportation for the morning arrival will run as normal. Transportation information for the afternoon sessions will be forthcoming. If you are choosing to transport your child to and from school, please adhere to the scheduled arrival and dismissal times.

Upon arrival to school, all students will receive a breakfast snack before testing and will receive a bag lunch to take home at dismissal. Please remind students they MAY NOT EAT on the bus.

All students are expected to be in their school uniform.   They should also leave Book bags and Chromebooks at home.

Please remember that it is extremely important that students arrive to school on time. Students arriving after the start of the testing session will be required to return home and complete a Make-up test.

Parents, it is the responsibility of all stakeholders to make sure that our children are ready and equipped with the knowledge and the understanding of what is to be expected to become successful! Hence, it is important that our students continue to practice consistently on the different district-wide programs (Stride Academy, Blue Streak, and (6thonly) WIN Program) which allow for success in the future! Please continue to work with your child (ren) with these programs so that we are on the path for success!

If you have, any further questions or concerns feel free to give me a call at 708-926-1245.

Educationally,

Ms.  Karen Slate
