Principal's Message

Ms. Karen Slate

Re~Igniting Our Passion!”

June 2019

Dear Parents/Guardians,

We have come to the end of the 2018-2019 school year.  Please join the NBLA staff and I in acknowledging and celebrating the many wonderful learning experiences and educational opportunities that were available for our students in the 2018-19 school year.  Parents, as our NBLA staff worked hard to develop, plan and execute best practice teaching and learning strategies; you have been instrumental in helping to create a school environment conducive to learning, while ensuring your child arrives prepared and ready to learn.  This past year, we set and promoted high standards and expectations for all of our students, because “WE Believe…that every student at NBLA can learn and excel”. We will continue to operate with this same belief in the 2019-2020 school year.  It was and will continue to be our goal, to work hard to provide a variety of teaching/learning techniques that would meet the individual educational needs of every student. It was evidenced in the gains and growth made throughout the year. Therefore, we plan to continue working to ensure that all students reach their potential and that we seek and provide opportunities for students to demonstrate their knowledge, areas of interest, and talents.

Ensuring that New Beginnings Learning Academy is a “school that works and is continuing to move forward” has been a team effort that includes; staff, students, parents and community.  We continue to require participation by each member of the team to facilitate success for our students.  I want to thank all members of the TEAM and stakeholders for their help this year.  I want to especially thank those of you who participated in New Beginnings Learning Academy’s school-wide events. Without your participation and dedication to the NBLA Family, we could not have been successful!

The New Beginnings Learning Academy Summer Initiative is to motivate/promote Balanced Literacy “Reading.” We want to enhance our student’s ability and competency to read. Students have been provided with books for the reading initiative. Let’s help them to get passionate about READING! We know that, if you can’t read it’s hard to do anything so let’s read, read, read!

Just a reminder for the start of the 2019-20 School Year, school will begin on Monday, August 19th at 9:00 am. and our students will be dismissed at 3:30 pm. The Back to School Carnival is Saturday August 24th at Caroline Sibley School from 11:00 am- 3:00 pm.  Our transportation services will remain at the same time for our start times. Please make sure you are at your location at the correct time for service. It is with great expectation that all of our students return with a big smile, a great attitude and behavior, correct uniforms, dreams and goals, with the intent to be prepared to put their best feet forward!   The continued support of All Team members is essential to ensuring we have on-going success with our goal of academic growth for every student.

Our NBLA staff wishes all of our students and families a wonderful, restful, fun and SAFE summer break. We also hope that your summer vacation is happy, refreshing and most of all relaxing.  For those of you who will not be returning in the fall, we send best wishes for your future. Please Remember, “It Takes A Village…!”

Once again, enjoy yourselves and we look forward to seeing you back in August!  Please remember to continue to look for updated information on the district website (www.schooldistrict149.org). If you have any questions, please feel free to call Ms. Slate at (708) 768-5200.  Thanks for your dedication to our children and cooperation in Dolton School District 149.  WE are continuing to Re~Ignite our Passion by Educating the Whole Child One Step at a Time!”

Sincerely,

Ms. Karen Slate
