7th Annual "I Make a Difference" Awards Honoring Dr. Shelly Davis-Jones

October 21, 2014

On behalf of the Dolton School District 149 School Board I would like to congratulate our Superintendent, Dr. Shelly Davis-Jones for being honored at the Village of Richton Park Community Relations Department 7th Annual "I Make a Difference" Awards on Saturday, October 18, 2014.  Dr. Davis-Jones is a dedicated, passionate leader who believes in doing all she can to improve the lives of others.  These awards were established to honor outstanding volunteers in the community.  Along with other Zeta Phi Beta Sorority members Dr. Davis-Jones formed the Tau Alpha Zeta chapter (TAZ) on March 30, 2003.  These twenty-three college-trained, professional women who matriculated from Western Illinois University sought to perpetuate the traditions and ideals of Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Inc.  These women who were all initiated through Omicron Kappa Chapter of Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Inc. shared a passion and desire to improve the quality of life for the residents of Richton Park, Illinois and within the greater Chicagoland area which lead to the formulation of TAZ.

Since its inception, TAZ has collaborated with a variety of community based organizations in the Richton Park community and beyond.  The collaborations and programs offered reflect their commitment to the Richton Park Community Relations Department national programs and partnerships.  Their efforts also reflect their desire to promote community health, economic empowerment, and educational excellence.

TAZ volunteers for Richton Park events and programs whenever called upon.  They volunteer each year to help clean up Richton Park on the Annual Clean-up Day; they are seen volunteering for the senior community as they serve at the Senior Citizen special events such as the Senior Prom and Senior Fun Day.  TAZ is always ready to lend a helping hand and when they do they come in groups with more than enough helping hands.
