School Bus Safety

Dear Parent/Guardian:

First Student Transportation Company reported that we have a great number of students misbehaving to and from school daily while riding the bus.  It has been reported that students are writing on the back of the bus seats, ripping the material off the bus seats, fighting, yelling and screaming, using profanity and walking up and down the aisles while the bus is in motion.  All of these things distract the bus driver and can cause great danger to all children riding the bus.  Your child’s safety is our number one priority!

The Board of Education has worked diligently to ensure that every child rides the bus with no cost to you the parents.  Your assistance is needed by helping your child understand the bus safety rules attached. To minimize the behavioral infractions I have requested that every principal conduct bus safety assemblies effective immediately.

If your child is caught violating the bus safety rules dire consequences will result in loss of bus privileges for the remainder of the 2015-2016 school year.  If riding the bus continues to be unappreciated parents will have to take responsibility for paying for their children to ride the bus.  The district cannot pay for vandalism and provide free bus service during these strained economic times. The Board of Education Policy 7:190 states the School Board will seek restitution from students and their parents/guardians for vandalism or other student acts that cause damage to school property.

Your attention to this matter is critical to safety of all children riding the school bus.  Please reveiw the bus rules below.  If you have questions or concerns please contact my office at (708) 868-7861.

We Believe . . .  Excellence, Humanization, and Pride!

Sincerely,
Dr. Shelly Davis-Jones
Superintendent
