Board President's Message

Mrs. Darlene Gray Everett

Dear Parents and Guardians,

As the Board President, my fellow board members understand the importance of students preparing themselves early for college and career readiness.  The eighth-grade students at the three middle schools assembled last week to hear an intimate and detailed presentation about the value of the pathway to college and career readiness.

I am proud to inform you that our very own Dolton 149 board of education member, Rayya Ghani conducted several sessions with students from the Creative Communications Academy, the School of Fine Arts, and the Science Technology Engineering and Mathematics Academy about the pathway to college and career readiness. Ms. Rayya Ghani is a former Dirksen Middle School Student and recruiter for South Suburban Community College.   Ms. Ghani did a phenomenal job sharing how a community college education can provide a solid foundation for young people to pursue a four-year degree or obtain vocational skills necessary to secure a good paying job.

Our students were clearly inspired and fired up by Ms. Ghani’s thoughtful presentation and each student was able to receive a participation gift from South Suburban Community College. It is truly wonderful to witness students come back and give back to the children in Dolton School District 149.  What this demonstrates is the high expectations, love and support we have tried to instill in each of our students and it has resonated with them as adults.  Ms. Ghani is a living testimony!

We are grateful and thankful for her leadership and service and look forward to her engaging with our children in the future.

We Believe . . . Excellence, Humanization and Pride!

Sincerely,

Darlene Gray Everett
School Board President
